The term "services" in a mine usually relates to the provision of a supply of electric power, water, compressed air, removal of waste water (a drainage and/or pumping system), communications and monitoring.
Most of these involve skills and techniques which are common to many industries but the process is often complicated because the services have to be supplied below ground, in a restricted space, in an atmosphere which has the possibility of becoming explosive, in conditions which are usually dark and dirty and with more restrictive legislative requirements than most other applications.

Geology/Geo-technical assessment – all mines require the services of a geologist and Geo technical engineer (sometimes combined in the one individual and frequently on a contract basis) to assess strata control requirements and forecast strata/stress conditions, coal quality, etc. This costs approximately 20,000Rs to 30,000Rs per month.
